Poor soils. Rich wines. Alicante PDO diversity
Alicante has a combination of soils that gives diversity and Mediterranean expression to its wines.
From vineyards at zero altitude such as the muscatels or mesegueras of the Natural Park of La Mata, or the vineyards by the sea in the Marina Alta area. To extremely poor soils, of ancient limestone, with which a rich marble industry has been made, and at the same time, capable of supporting the life of Monastrell vines in dry land. Or vineyards of more than 600 meters of altitude in front of the sea. Valleys where the humidity arrives or wind corridors where the levante, the gregal, and other sea winds also changeable and diverse.
If to these conditions we add the variety of grapes: monastrell, valencies, garnachas, forcallat, etc. it multiplies variables in this zone marked by its triangular northeast situation towards Africa (cape of the Nao in the peninsula as compass).
It is also important for us to talk about the current extreme situation of land management in some regions.
