In addition to reducing CO2 emissions to mitigate global warming, Familia Torres adapts to the new climate context by planting more resistant ancestral varieties, high altitude vineyards and regenerative viticulture. Miguel A. Torres began in the early eighties the project for the recovery of pre-phylloxeric varieties, practically extinct. Now, thanks to the efforts of the fifth generation of this 150-year wine family, the project focuses on those varieties that, in addition to being small oenological jewels, are able to face high temperatures and drought and become the solution for the viticulture of the future. Mireia Torres and the sommelier Sergi Castro will show the potential of some of these recovered ancestral varieties that the winery is experimenting with.

The digitalisation of the wine sector has come to stay and to coexist with traditional formats. The COVID and post-COVID era has meant a radical change in the way we communicate, how we shop and, of course, how we work.

During this panel discussion we will examine various tools that help us to optimise international sales while minimising the money and time invested. Solutions and strategies at the hand of any producer that will help us to professionalise our efforts, while at the same time representing a great saving and an exponential increase in our sales possibilities.

Clàssic Penedès is the name given to the sparkling wines category within DO Penedès. This seminar will explain the foundations and quality commitment of Clàssic Penedès, which pledges to develop their land for future generations. The pillars on which Clàssic Penedès’proposal lies are:

  • 100% Penedès: all grapes are, exclusively from within DO Penedès.
  • 100% organic: it’s the first DO in the world whose sparkling wines are all organic.
  • 100% Reserva: all its wines have undergone a minimum ageing of 18 months.

DOPenedès continues to strive its commitment for the land, the indigenous varieties and the progressive impulse of producing all their base wines within their own cellars. Furthermore, the DO’s future plans will be briefly laid out.

This seminar will be complemented by a selection of wines from ClàssicPenedès, exclusively selected by the only Catalan Master of Wine, Álvaro Ribalta MW.

We are in a moment of transition towards sustainable agriculture, towards a new agri-food model in which sustainability is the basis. The appellations of wine origin support these efforts and want to contribute to the dissemination of the concept, clearly explaining what it consists of and making visible the concrete actions and commitments that it already translates into in the field of DDOO, thus showing a firm will to advance in this new model. In "Sustainability, from the origin", the results of the study carried out by CECRV and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in the second half of 2021 on the environmental sustainability of wine designations of origin will be presented and, in table format round, the perspectives of production, elaboration and origin will be present to clearly illuminate the main potentialities and areas of progress in the environmental sustainability of viticulture.

The Association of Regenerative Viticulture was established in November 2021 with the aim of driving a paradigm shift in vineyard management to tackle climate change and, at the same time, regenerate the soils, stop erosion and promote biodiversity. This viticultural model, based on the carbon cycle, maximises the capacity of the vineyards to absorb atmospheric CO2 and turns them into large carbon sinks, thus helping to slow down global warming. The more winegrowers adopt this model, the greater the impact. The Association, founded by Familia Torres, Clos Mogador, Can Feixes, Jean Leon and AgroAssessor, aims at becoming a hub to join efforts and share knowledge and experiences. During this talk, founding members will explain the main pillars of regenerative viticulture and present the Association.

Since its foundation in the 18th century, Abelé 1757 has established itself as a guardian of the passage of time… Two and a half centuries full of history and legends that now merge with modernity.

Marked by tradition but contemporary by nature, Maison Abelé has always placed technical progress at the center of its actions, revolutionizing Champagne. A region with a unique terroir where chardonnays are the heart and soul of its champagnes, with the aim of transmitting the essence of the land.

With an eye on the future, generations of men and women fight to perpetuate the style and centuries-old tradition of this area.

The climate emergency is by far the most serious threat we face as viticulturists and winemakers. Without swift and decisive emissions reductions, our future will be altered to levels hard to imagine, with devastating consequences for our beloved wine regions and the wines we produce for people around the world. We believe that the wine sector can become a model of hope and action in the global response to the climate crisis. And we firmly believe that being member of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) is the most effective way to accelerate the individual decarbonization efforts of a winery, and by extension the decarbonization of the wine industry in general. We urge you to join us!

In this presentation- tasting we have proposed to offer super-exclusive cavas. It is an unprecedented experience. All of them are products that are still available in the market and with a minimum of 10 years of ageing. Most are of extremely limited production. They are the '7 magnificent' of Cava. They are not all those who have crossed the limit of a decade of ageing with their lees in the bottle, but we do believe that it is a very good representation of the qualitative pyramid of DO Cava. We pursue the highest excellence. And it is precisely to show this excellent diversity that has moved us to organize this effervescent event..

Resistant grape varieties and VRIAACC, a new step beyond organic farming

05-04-2022 18:0005-04-2022 19:00Europe/MadridResistant grape varieties and VRIAACC, a new step beyond organic farming

Since2011, Albet i Noya, together with Alta Alella and Cellers Josep Piñol, have been leading an

experimental vineyard project to generate Resistant and Indigenous Varieties Adapted to Climate Change

(VRIAACC). They are a viable solution to fight against fungal diseases of the vineyard as we can see with the

implementation of this type of plant in other countries such as Germany, France or Italy.

In Albet and Noya, pioneers in organic vineyards and wines, this is a step beyond the classic and regulated

concept of organc farming. A further step towards the logic of where the organic vineyard has to be.

Josep Maria Albet presents the state of these varieties and the VRIAACC project in Barcelona and offers the

possibility of tasting the first wines of Spain made with resistant varieties.

Wine tourism is a very broad concept that is increasingly being used to accommodate actions and ways of approaching wine tourism. Beyond the creativity of the actors who bet, there is also a very important branch related to communication. How it is explained is also a tool to study and analyze. And in this round table we will try to share, from a practical point of view, ideas or practical examples where training also has a place.
