Barcelona Wine Week 2026 nears full capacity, featuring Spain’s best wineries
- 95% of the wineries from previous fairs will be back next year, with 1,300 from 85 Designations of Origin expected to attend.
- The leading Spanish trade fair devoted to wine will pay tribute to the wineries of the great family dynasties
The flagship event for high-quality Spanish wine is set to be held for the sixth time from 2 to 4 February 2026, with the exhibition space set aside at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue practically full. Most of the wineries that took part in the previous fair will once again lend their support to Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) as the country’s leading event, and it’s expected to bring together 1,300 producers from all over Spain.
Barcelona Wine Week will once again be held in two halls (1 and 8) at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue, allocating 10,100 m² of its surface area to about 1,300 Spanish wineries representing major brands and small producers, as well as over 85 Designations of Origin and other quality seals.
95% of the wineries that took part in the previous fair will once again offer their support to the industry’s leading fair in Spain to expand abroad and diversify their markets. The exhibiting companies that have already confirmed their attendance include González Byass, Codorniu, Vallformosa, Marques del Atrio, Freixenet, Juvé & Camps, Grupo Osborne, Grandes Pagos de España, Araex, Parés Baltà, Otazu, Barbadillo and El Escocés Volante.
According to the fair’s president, Javier Pagès, “Barcelona Wine Week is the only Spanish wine fair created with and for the sector. Therefore, at a particularly difficult time for the industry around the world, our goal is to become the platform that brings us together, providing new business opportunities and promoting the competitiveness of high-quality Spanish wineries”.
More international and domestic business
In this regard, BWW’s organisers will invite around a thousand major national buyers from the large-scale distribution, specialised retail and horeca sectors, currently the main marketing channels when it comes to Spanish wine production. Alcampo, Consum, Lidl, Makro, HN Hotels, Eurostars, José Andrés Group, Vila Viniteca and Decántalo were just some of the companies that attended the previous BWW.
In international terms, the next fair is expected to attract over 800 major buyers from markets key to sales in the industry, including Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland and China, as well as more recent ones such as Southeast Asia and the Mercosur countries.
It is estimated that BWW 26 will attract more than 26,000 professional visitors, 20% of them from abroad, and schedule over 13,500 business meetings.
The great dynasties
The core thematic pillar of BWW 2026 will be the human factor, paying particular attention to the historical legacy of the Spanish wine industry, made up of great family dynasties.
It will include interventions by long-standing wine-producing families and the new generations that are taking on responsibilities at the wineries.
The programme of activities will address diverse topics, including alternatives to the US market, artificial intelligence at the service of wineries, the evolution of wine prescriptions and how to create memorable wine and hospitality experiences.
As part of BWW 2026, there will be a master class featuring wines from Jerez titled “10+1 legends of Jerez”, delivered my journalist and sommelier Ramón Francàs. Furthermore, as at previous fairs, within the “BWW likes the city” programme, different activities and experiences will be organised away from the fair to imbue the city of Barcelona with wine, thanks to partnerships with different sectors such as commerce, culture and leisure.
Since its creation in 2020, the event has enjoyed the support and collaboration of the FEV (Spanish Wine Federation), the MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food), ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the CECRV (Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils), the AVC (Catalan Wine Producers’ Association), the OIVE (Spanish Wine Interprofessional Association) and Cajamar, the leading cooperative bank.
In 2024, according to data provided by ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the value of Spanish wine exports totalled 3,066.7 million euros. This figure constitutes a 1.6% increase with respect to the previous year, bringing in an additional 49.4 million euros.
